@CUSEC: Why do we have to wait forever to see that we screw up?
I have been coding ‘Twenty Four Dreams’ splash screen prototype for the last 5 days to familiarize myself with panda3d’s Intervals/Animations control: 70% of time is spend on adjusting animations, 20% time is scratching the first prototype to restart over , rest, to build the actual structure.
I love it, but I cannot help but feel like I am doing something wrong.
so yes, I was dribbling a bit when I saw Bret Victor’s ‘dont lost connection with your idea’ (HTML5 + JS +buzzword…) demo:
- +final result screen side by side with code screen, all modifications in sync
- +Animation breakdown / visualizations of past and future frames in sync with code change.
- +why retype/adjust numbers/parameters when you can have slidebar??????
immediate reaction: why are we not doing this, how did he do it , I want it now !!!!

wait a second: will having the tool really solve my problems? (Mr Victor seems pretty overwhelmed when people start asking why he has not yet put it open source. He did promise that he will eventually release it, but well … … … cross my fingers)
But the thing is, I think I saw something similar demoed during Ubisoft competition meeting: Autodesk Skyline. And yet, I was not as impressed with it as I was with Bret Victor’s demo even if Autodesk’s is definitely more powerful and promote the exact same idea!!!!
SO WHY AM I SO INSTANTLY “INSPIRED/BRAINWASHED/had my mind blow away”?
- +the demo is in JavaScript/HTML5/… vs. Autodesk script
- +code on one side, canvas on other, no extra buttons, vs Autodesk interface
- +we see the inner working of a for loop: no more need to print message inside loop to see what is going on. vs. Autodesk usually target a very different client
IT LOOKS SIMPLE!!!! I feel like I know exactly what is going on.
On the other hand, I can hear some arguments echo in my mind that the time spent in animation adjusting will not go away because I have this tool, if it can be, I probably need not be doing it in the first place. Sure, If I need to make a game/programming, i should not be waiting for some tools to come out when a lot has already been available.
WAIT A SECOND! Why would even I think that I would not want to program the animation???? that I would rather someone else did it for me? Why would I want to separate the design and algorithm when the visual part is what appeals to me????
———-This is where I kind of lost sight of what I want ——-
…
—and that I realize what I have been bit unhappy about recently—
It is not even the problem of balance between having too much functionality and just enough which I want to show with the skyline vs Bret Victor’s demo comparison.
I realize that I am about to allow the norm dictates the way I create things and I will probably think that I was just someone, the only one, not patient and calm enough to take on the challenges. Wow, there were people actually out there as frustrated as me!!!! if that whole room of software engineer students/innovators/start-up founders applauding was anything to go by.
This is why CUSEC 2012 and Bret Victor are so awesome.
What I am seeing here is the progress of technology, of people pushing the boundary of what seems to be set in stone. That is what make me feel truly honored and thankful to be in that keynote room yesterday, because this is the first time I feel like standing on shoulder of giants, looking into the future.

p.s I would love to see reverse engineering/tweaking of this going viral on github soon + participate.
-ideas: probably going to try to use some library like http://livereload.com/ for code modification sync with some intermediate stage(pause, resume) detecting if it is an animation: record down animation frames????? mmmmm~~~~
This is a tumblr, there will be troll.

I find Amy Pond(aka. Karen Gillan) hot because she possess the same charm as the doctor and she know what she wants. First point makes her see through the doctor, so she does not ask “why are you doing this?” to something that will eventually be explained at the end of episode. I think this is also why I prefer Eleventh and feel like I know him better even if there is so little mention of Gallifrey: a little acceptance is all it takes to make you think: WHAT, WAIT, WHAT, just like that?
Second point….mmmm…. she keeps forgetting about Rory, but she does not forget how awesome he is….mmm ok this really does not do her justice.
In summery, life is so much less drama queen and so much more inspiring in this tv serie than any American Sci-Fi I have seen.
p.s dear Steven Moffat, thank you for finally breaking the vicious cycle of horrible use of SFX in comic book movie-remake with the story transition during Captain Haddock’s narration. In addition, I find Sherlock season two very cliche, but I guess you cannot help it.

Making pots = make mistakes = everything will be alright in the end.
I am trying to organize a really messy mind by having an outlet, a process of ideas refinement.
I will ponder design decisions so i can and will make good ones naturally.
@CUSEC quote: “there is once a teacher who divide his pottery class students into 2 grading schemes: one be evaluated on the quality of one single prefect pot, other on the quantity….As it turns out, the best pot come from the ‘quantity’ group, from making mistakes during the process of making and finishing, from encounter errors and not making the same one twice.”
Dear Manveer Heir, I embrace this perverse love of video game industry.
